Jag

Jag
Artist: Donna G. Myers
Sponsor: Lindberg & Ripple

My name is Jag. I am a Police Working Dog or a guardian of the night as we are described in a famous poem written about dogs like me. My partner during my 10 year career with the Windsor Police Department was Steve Vesco. We were inseparable until I retired on October 31, 2007.

I was very fortunate in my partnership as Steve took good care of me, and welcomed me into his home and his family. In return, I gave him my complete devotion, both on and off the job. We had a lot of adventures together, and I would have done anything for him. When a new baby was added to our family, I was as proud as he was, and my off-the-job duties grew " I needed to watch over her whenever Steve and weren t doing our paying job.

Because I cared so much about doing a good job for the people of Windsor and, in particular, for my family, I forgot to be afraid in dangerous situations. Also, I took my responsibilities very seriously " my happiest times were when I was working. This is not to say we didn t have great times off the job too. When Steve took off my work collar , I was known to let loose and be a complete goofball.

To tell the truth, when I was off the job, I was sometimes a bit of a bad boy and would drive the family a little nuts by gnawing at doorknobs and letting myself out for a little unsupervised romp. My biggest weakness was missing my partner. When Steve was out of my sight for any length of time, I suffered from severe anxiety and would create quite a ruckus or go into a blue funk.

Retirement was tough on me as I was a work-a-holic. It got so bad that when Steve went to work with his new partner, he would drop me off to hang out at the Police Station. This helped a little, but it was still had a hard adjustment. After only five months, I collapsed one day at the station and all emergency efforts were for naught " my life was done. Now I pass my time with other famous bad boys like Marley. I m teaching him a few new tricks from my repertoire.

I want to thank Lindberg & Ripple for sponsoring me. Lindberg & Ripple helps to protect people and their families too. They work to help businesses and families have the insurance and financial protection they need. I will be staying with them at their 100 Northfield Drive office until the auction in the fall.
